THE Sajek Police Station has issued a warning to Jyoti Lal Chakma not to build houses or plant trees on his own land in Gangaram village of Sajek Union in Rangamati district.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Officer-in-charge of Sajek Thana, Md. Nurul Anwar, in a notice issued on 22 July 2014 stated, \u201cYou are being notified that you are plotting to cultivate and build houses and gardens in the scheduled land mentioned below. You must refrain from these activities from the moment you receive this notice. You must obey the law. This issue can be settled through discussion. You are asked not to construct any kind of structure from the time you receive the notice.\u201d [Ref: Sajek Thana GD No. 529, dated 22\/07\/14 and warning notice issued under section 154 of Criminal Code.]<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notice cited the boundary of the 30-acre land as \u201cSajek road on the north, Gangaram to Marishya road and Simanachara on the south, forest on the east and a school and Ujo bazar on the west.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thana notice was preceded by another notice issued by Md. Alauddin, Range Officer of Chittagong Hill Tracts Northern Forest Department on 19 July 2014. [Notice No. 22.01.8407.909.08.000.14-693, dated: 19\/07.14]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this notice it was stated: \u201cAn attempt is being made to illegally occupy government reserve forest land situated in Compartment No. 54 of Baghaihat Range east of Gangaram bazar and near Baghaihat-Sajek road by erecting fences around it. In this circumstance, you are requested to remove the fences and not to build houses, shops or any other structure on the said government reserve forest land. Legal actions will be taken if attempts are made to occupy government reserve forest land violating the law relating to the said matter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These notices were issued to facilitate the BGB to acquire the land in question belonging to Jyoti Lal Chakma, who has been in the possession of it for the last 34 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he and other Jumma villagers took an initiative to install a statue of the Buddha on this land a few days ago, the BGB and the local administration officials prevented them, resulting in a standoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BGB wants to acquire this piece of land to build a headquarters for its 51 Battalion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
