Alamgir, 25, son of Chan Mia of Datmara, the driver of the motorbike, halted, dragged her into a roadside jungle and then tried to rape her.<\/div>\n<div><a name=\"more\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div>At that time, two people &#8212; Khalek, a bamboo trader, and Shahajahan, a local villager, &#8212; were passing by the road.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Seeing them, the girl gave a loud shout to attract their attention, which made the culprit, Alamgir, scared and run away.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The passersby then rescued her and escorted her back home.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sexual violence against Jumma women is commonplace in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, while the perpetrators are rarely prosecuted.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Since January this year, at least 8 cases of rape and 5 cases of attempted rape have been reported.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Two of these victims have been killed after being raped.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/b><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><i>News No. 72\/2012. <\/i><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>chtnews.com Wednesday, September 05, 2012 A 12-YEAR old Jumma girl has been subjected to an attempted rape while on her way back home in Ramgarh under Khagrachari district.
