{"id":272,"date":"2012-01-12T15:53:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-12T09:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chtnews.com\/english\/?p=272"},"modified":"2023-01-30T18:16:22","modified_gmt":"2023-01-30T12:16:22","slug":"santu-group-kidnaps-one-in-chittagong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chtnews.com\/english\/2012\/01\/12\/santu-group-kidnaps-one-in-chittagong\/","title":{"rendered":"Santu group kidnaps one in Chittagong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>chtnews.com<\/strong><br \/>\nJanuary 12, 2012<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEMBERS of the Santu group have reportedly kidnapped a factory operative from Bandar area in Chittagong.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sources said Suhrid Chakma, a worker of GSK Limited in Chittagong EPZ, was attacked when he was on his way back home at 8pm yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Santu group men, led by Sumon Chakma, beat him with fists and clubs, an eyewitness said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has been missing since then.\u201d Polen Chakma, a factory worker, told chtnews.com.<\/p>\n<p>Suhrid hails from Majalong under Sajek Union in Rangamati district and lives at Chander Alo Building at No. 2 Miler Matha in Bandar.<\/p>\n<p>The attack comes one day after the kidnapping of Anil Kanti Tanchangya, president of Rangamati District unit of Bangladesh Krishak League, from Wagga in Kaptai Upazila in Rangamati.<\/p>\n<p>The Santu group has killed at least 230 UPDF members and supporters and kidnapped hundreds others since the signing of the CHT accord in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>On 4 December 2011, they also kidnapped five Bengali settlers from a remote area in Barkal Upazila, provoking angry protests from the settlers in Rangamati.<\/p>\n<p>The settlers have not been traced since then.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br \/>\nNews No. 03\/2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>chtnews.com January 12, 2012 MEMBERS of the Santu group have reportedly kidnapped a factory operative from Bandar area in Chittagong.
