{"id":4216,"date":"2011-02-11T22:07:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-11T16:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chtnews.com\/english\/?p=4216"},"modified":"2023-01-31T22:08:51","modified_gmt":"2023-01-31T16:08:51","slug":"settlers-attempt-at-occupying-fringe-land-in-naniachar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chtnews.com\/english\/2011\/02\/11\/settlers-attempt-at-occupying-fringe-land-in-naniachar\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Settlers\u2019 attempt at occupying fringe land in Naniachar<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>chtnews.com<\/strong><br>News No. 08\/2011, February 11, 2011<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BENGALI settlers are reportedly making attempts to occupy hundreds of acres of cultivable land belonging to Jumma people in Naniachar under Rangamati district.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources said hundreds of Bengali settlers from Islampur had been planting paddy on \u201cfringe\u201d lands belonging to Jumma people in Gobindabil since morning today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fringe lands are those categories of lands which reappear when the Kaptai lake water recedes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The settlers\u2019 attempt comes two days after the military launched a massive operation in Naniachar and Kudukchari areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operation, during which at least two innocent villagers were arrested, is believed to have been designed to instill a sense of fear among the Jumma people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) has condemned the settlers\u2019 attempt to grab Jumma people\u2019s land and urged the authorities concerned to take effective measures to safeguard the legal rights of the Jumma villagers to the land in question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>chtnews.comNews No. 08\/2011, February 11, 2011 BENGALI settlers are reportedly making attempts to occupy hundreds of acres of cultivable land belonging to Jumma people in Naniachar under Rangamati district.
