In Alikadam Upazila of Bandarban, more than 10 members of the Mro ethnic community from Janali Para were injured in two separate attacks carried out by Rohingya armed groups. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.<\/p>\n

According to local sources, a Rohingya resident of Naya Para under Alikadam Union No. 3, Jafar alias \u201cBaitta Dakat Jafar\u201d (45), son of Farid Alam, had been stealing crops from the gardens of the Mro community in Janali Para for a long time. The stolen items reportedly included bananas, pineapples, turmeric plants, various other crops, and domestic animals such as goats and cattle. Although the matter was reported to the chairman of the local Union Parishad of No. 3 Naya Para, Kofil Uddin, no action was taken, according to locals.<\/p>\n

First Attack<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Saturday morning, 17 January 2026, at around 10:00 am, Jafar entered the village with the intention of stealing and was caught red-handed by villagers. Shortly afterward, at around 10:30 am, Jafar\u2019s son, along with his associates\u2014approximately 10 to 15 Rohingya individuals\u2014launched a sudden attack on the villagers using locally made weapons such as machetes, hoes, and axes.<\/p>\n

During the attack, Angsong Mro (30) and Prekya Mro (26) were seriously injured. The attackers later forcibly freed Jafar from the villagers and allegedly issued various threats before leaving.<\/p>\n

Following the incident, at around 11:30 am, villagers went to Alikadam Police Station to file a complaint. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) assured them of assistance and asked them to return home. Later, at approximately 5:00 pm, villagers received a phone call from the police station instructing them to come to the station. When they arrived, the OC stated that the call had been made to the wrong number, which caused extreme confusion and anxiety among the villagers.<\/p>\n

Second Attack<\/strong><\/p>\n

Later in the evening, at around 7:00 pm, while villagers were returning to their village from the direction of the police station in two tomtom vehicles, a group of around 40 people\u2014men and women, including Rohingya and Bengali individuals\u2014carrying locally made weapons launched another sudden attack near the Naya Para graveyard.<\/p>\n

As a result, all 18 passengers in the tomtoms were injured, including 8 who sustained serious injuries.<\/p>\n

  2. Amar Tripura (50), son of Naya Chandra Tripura<\/li>\n
  3. Prekikya Mro (27), son of Mangin Mro<\/li>\n
  4. Angsong Mro (30), son of Kotong Mro<\/li>\n
  5. Kotong Mro (50), son of Kai In Mro<\/li>\n
  6. Nganwai Mro (27), son of Don Rui Mro<\/li>\n
  7. Langching Mro (30), son of Mopom Mro<\/li>\n
  8. Menru Mro (40), son of Khain Doi Mro<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Villagers have described the administration\u2019s silence so far and the confusing phone call from the police in the evening as a \u201cfarce.\u201d Questions have been raised as to why the police instructed them to come to the station in the evening without cause, and whether there was any involvement of the administration in the attacks.<\/p>\n

    According to villagers, if the administration continues to act in such a manner, the security of indigenous ethnic communities in the hill regions will be placed under severe threat.<\/p>\n

    The villagers have demanded urgent intervention by the authorities, calling for an impartial investigation, the arrest of those responsible, and the assurance of permanent security.<\/p>\n
