After abducting one indigenous Jumma (hill) person in Ramgarh, Khagrachari, illegal settlers have reportedly brutally beaten another.<\/p>\n

The incident is said to have occurred this afternoon, Saturday (14 February 2026).<\/p>\n

The victim of the assault is Himel Chakma, also known as Din Mohan (55), son of Nirmal Chakma, from Nangel Para village, Ramgarh, Khagrachari.<\/p>\n

According to locals, he serves as the president of the management committee of Nangel Para DharmaKirti Aramya\u00a0Buddhist Monastery.<\/p>\n

It is reported that Himel Chakma had been feeling unwell for several days and went to Ramgarh bazaar (market) this morning (14 February) to buy medicine. On his way home after purchasing the medicine, when he reached a place called \u201cPalm Oil Garden\u201d near the border of Lalchari village, illegal settler chased him, caught him, and severely beat him, leaving him unconscious.<\/p>\n

After regaining consciousness, he somehow managed to return home around 3:00 pm. He stated that the settlers stripped off his shirt and pants, leaving him naked, and looted all his belongings.<\/p>\n

Describing the items taken from him, he alleged: \u201cThe settlers took 2,000 taka in cash, one button mobile phone (which had 1,500 taka in a bKash account), my national ID card, the monastery\u2019s official seal, the monastery\u2019s cheque book (of Rupali Bank), medicine, the pants and shirt I was wearing, and my leather shoes\u2014everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to family sources, arrangements are underway to take him to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

The victim\u2019s family and local residents have demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible.<\/p>\n

It is worth mentioning that earlier today at noon, settlers abducted another indigenous hill person named Swi Ba Aung Marma (47) from the Lalchari area and, after beating him, handed him over to the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh). He has reportedly been admitted to Ramgarh Hospital. However, there are allegations that police, BGB, and army personnel are not allowing anyone to enter the hospital.<\/p>\n
