Fifteen socio-cultural organisations in Khagrachari have decided to abstain from celebrating Boisabi festival in protest against communal attacks on Jumma villages in Sajek and Khagrachari in February.

The leaders of these organisations in a press statement issued on 30 March said, following the attacks in Sajek on 19 – 20 February and in Khagrachari on 23 February, there is no congenial atmosphere for celebrating any festival in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

“When thousands of people are starving in the jungles and in the open sky, when the cry of the victims is still heard, to participate in the celebration of the Boisabi is to forget the real spirit of Boisabi – which is unity, solidarity and fraternity.” they said.

They urged all to discard all festivities on the occasion of Boisabi and stand by the side of the victims.

The fifteen organisations are Pratirodh Sangskritic Squad (Resistance Cultural Squad), Jumma Samajik-Sankskritic Songsod (JUSAS), Huang Boi-o-Ba, Pioneer Club, Young Star Club, Sangu Boi-o-tak, Chandabi Club, Hill Star, Phar Chider Club, Sasna Club, Surjo Shikha Club, Salkatal Club, Wasna Club, Marma Sangatan Oikya Parishad and Jela Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha.
