The Khagrachari chapter of the Karbari Association has expressed its support for the call to abstain from celebrating Boisabi festival in protest against joint attacks on Jumma villages by army and settlers in Sajek and Khagrachari in February.

In a statement issued to the media today, Ranik Tripura, President of Khagrachari Chapter of the Karbari Associatoin, said “The people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts are in no mood to indulge in merry-making in the prevailing atmosphere of fear and unstable situation that emanated as a consequence of the attacks on Jumma people in Sajek and Khagrachari.”

He has expressed support for the decision taken by fifteen socio-cultural organisations in Khagrachari to discard all festivities during Boisabi festival.

“The spirit of Boisabi is unity, solidarity and fraternity. In a situation where hundreds of victim families in Sajek and Khagrachari will be deprived of the festival, to indulge in merry-making without their participation is to go against this spirit of Boisabi.” Ranik stated.

He further said the Karbari Association will abstain from all festivities and merry-making in a show of solidarity with the victims.

The press release is signed by Purna Bhusahn Tripura.
