News No. 85/2010, April 07, 2010
The members of Bangladesh Army on 5 April searched five Jumma houses, as the family members of Ms Jharna Dewan, who was chopped to death by settlers on March 29 over a dispute over a piece of land, held obsequies for her at Talukderpara village in Kaokhali under Rangamati district.
The army personnel from Kaokhali camp yesterday surrounded the place where the Saptahik Kria or the obsequies (a semi religious ceremony held in honour and for the benefit of the deceased normally one week after death) was held.
The houses that the army searched belong to Sona Muni Chakma and Amalendu Chakma of Talukderpara and Baranda Chakma and Jubo Lal Chakma of Ullapara and Sunil Chakma from the village of Panchari.
The soldiers also interrogated Jagadish Chakma, Headman of Ullapara, and Sukumar Karbari in Ullapara village.
