The Rupayan Dewan faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti will meet in a conference tomorrow, Saturday, in Dighinala, Khagrachari, according to reports published in Kalerkantho and Prothom Alo. [Scanned copy of the Kalerkantho report attached]
The conference, being held barely 9 days after the national conference of the Santu Larma faction in Rangamati, is likely to give birth to a rival central committee of the JSS.
Convenor of the organising committee of the conference, Tatindra Lal Chakma, better known by his nom de guerre Major Pele, said about 1,000 JSS members and sympathizers have been invited to the conference.
“We will decide our future plan of action after considering the latest situation of the CHT, the present state of affairs in the party and the deviation of Santu Larma from the party ideology.” he further said.
A JSS leader told the Kalerkantha newspaper, “Since we belong to the mainstream, the name of the party will be Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS). However, an alternative name can be Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (M. N. Larma). We may also consider other names.”
Sudha Sindhu Khisha, a top ranking leader of the JSS and a member of the Regional Council, said, “Recently, Santu Larma has formed a central committee of a Father-in-law and a son-in-law bypassing the people and the rank and file of the party.”
General Secretary of JSS Khagrachari District branch, Sudhakar Tripura said that owing to the leadership role of Santu Larma the future of the indigenous people have become uncertain.
The organisers have invited all its district and Upazila level leaders to participate in the conference.
Top leaders of the JSS including Sudhasindhu Khisha, Rupayan Dewan, Mrinal Kanti Chakma, Nilu Kumar Tanchangya, Raktotpal Tripura, Thoai Aung Marma, Bimal Kanti Chakma and Binay Krishna Chakma are expected to attend the confernce.
