An Jumma trader has been tortured by military-backed Borkha Party terrorists in Laxmichari under Khagrachari district.
The victim has been identified as Alo Chakma alias Kumrabo, aged 38, son of Kerani Chakma of village Hazachari under Dulyatoli Union.
According to eyewitnesses, who wanted to be anonymous for fear of reprisals, at about 1:30pm today a group of Borkha Party terrorists led by Shyamol Kanti Chakma, Fonno Ali Chakma and Chokkapeda Chakma picked up Alo Chakma, a bamboo trader, from Laxmichari bazaar and took him to Jurgachari village which is nearby the bazaar.
They beat him severely and then handed him over to the police, who sent him to Laxmichari hospital for treatment.
Alo Chakma was not wanted in any case, and Ms Sagarika Chakma, lady vice chairman of Laxmichari Upazila Council, got him released from police custody on bail.
Latest reports say the Officer-in-charge (OC) of Laxmichari police station Rezaul Karim Reza continues to refuse to register a case against Borkha Party terrorists in connection with the beating of Alo Chakma.
