A local leader of the Democratic Youth Forum, a front organisation of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF), has been shot dead in Jurachari of Rangamati district.
Prashanta Chakma alias Chanda Lal (35) son of late Prem Kumar Chakma was shot dead by a group of armed JSS men (Santu group) at about 11:45am today at his home in Lebour Para village in Jurachari.
He was having his lunch when the miscreants shot him, killing him on the spot.
His house is barely 400 yards away from both the Jurachari police station and an army camp.
However, neither the police nor the army personnel took any effort to nab the terrorists.
UPDF leader Shanti Dev Chakma condemned the killing of Prashanta Chakma, finance secretary of DYF Jurachari Upazila Unit, and demanded immediate arrest of the assassins.
He severely criticized the government for failing to take actions against Santu group and said: “The terrorists let loose by Santu Larma continue to kill and kidnap people at will and yet the local administration is sitting on its hands.”
“This sort of impunity and inaction on the part of the government contribute to the sustenance of such criminal activities of Santu Group” he added.
