Army search houses in Panchari

ON the night of 19 August, a group of army personnel from Panchari zone raided the village of Manikyapara and searched three houses there, a villager who wished not to be named told chtnews.com.

According to sources, the soldiers forced the inmates of the houses out and then carried out the searches that lasted for two hours.

The houses searched belong to Naba Raj Chakma, Karbari (head) of the village, Amrey Rakhain, a trader in Chidol (a kind of food made of fish or prawn), and Mrigha Moni Chakma (65).

The soldiers interrogated them about local members of the UPDF. The questions asked were whether there is any committee of the UPDF in their area, whether they have to pay tolls to the UPDF and whether UPDF members visit their village etc.
