THE armed members of the Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti has been terrorising in Subholong Union and Basanta Moan of Rangamati district.

Sources said a group of JSantu Larma faction of the JSS led by Promesh and Ubhochulo raided the village of Unduromachara today, Wednesday, and seized all the mobile phones from the villagers.

The armed miscreants also threatened the villagers saying, “Anyone who is found to be supporting UPDF shall be ‘punished’, and there will be no mercy.”

Earlier, the group seized all the cell phones in Bolipara village in Basanta moan.

The Santu group has stepped up its terror campaigns since it purchased dozens of sophisticated weapons from the Jamat-e-Islami Bangladesh last month.

The Jamat had to sell away its weaponry because of the pressure it has been enduring since AL came to power in 2009. Its top leaders are now arrested and facing charges of crime against humanity and the rest of the leadership is under constant watch from the government.

The Santu group is also believed to have received supplies of a large quantity of firearms and ammunitions from Burmese arms smugglers.

The supplies were received during Santu Larma’s recent visit to Ruma in Bandarban.

The organisational programmes that were undertaken during his visit were merely a cover for the delivery and transshipment of the weaponry.

It is an open secret that the Santu group uses the Regional Council’s vehicles to transport its arms and ammunitions as well as its armed members because the RC convoys are never subjected to checks by army and police.
