THE chief organizer of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) Khagrachari district unit, Pradipan Khisha, has alleged that a vested interest group has begun a conspiracy to grab hundreds of acres of land belonging to Jumma people in Boroitali under Manikchari Upazila in Khagrachari district.
Mr Khisha expressed deep concern about it and urged the local administration to take necessary steps to protect the lands of the Jumma villagers.
He said a group of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), accompanied by Kongjori Chowdhuri, headman of Boroitali Mouza, visited Boroitali yesterday and videoed and took photographs of the land they want to occupy for Bengali settlement.
Earlier in 2009, the settlers had made an unsuccessful attempt to occupy the said land.
Pradipan Khisha said the vested interest group is trying to push the CHT situation towards confrontation by instigating the settlers to grab land in Boroitali a few days before Boisabi, the biggest festival of the Jumma people.
“But the Jumma people will do whatever they can to protect their land.” he said.
