A JUMMA teenage girl has been sexually assaulted by a Bengali settler in Naniachar of Rangamati district.
The incident occurred at about 5pm on Thursday when Md. Kabir, 25, a resident of Bogachari and a timber trader, went to Nanaprum village to survey trees for quality.
While doing so, Kabir dropped in to the house of Shovapura Chakma ostensibly to drink water but found his 14-year-old daughter alone and assaulted her sexually.
When the incident became known, the villagers became agitated, and Kabir fled the scene leaving his motorbike behind on the road.
He is reported to have gone into hiding.
The victim’s family is said to be preparing to file a case with the police in this connection.
