THREE more people, including a class eight student, have been arrested in connection with the theft of a rifle from a police personnel in Panchari.
The police arrested Sagorika Chakma, a 24-year-old Jumma woman, on Sunday morning (19 October) from Panchari bazaar and Junan Chakma alias Manek, a class eight student of Latiban Junior High School, on Saturday (18 October) from Porabari area near Kolabagan in Panchari bazaar.
Sagorika Chakma, wife of Gipu Chakma, is a resident of Nalkaba village, and was arrested when she went to Panchari bazaar.
Junan Chakma son of Gyana Moy Chakma of Nabin Chandra Para village in Shantipur, was arrested while he was on his way to attend Kothin Chibor Dana, a Buddhist religious festival, at Logang Bana Vihara.
Both of them were sent to Khagrachari jail.
Dighinala
In Dighinala, the police arrested Zohel Chakma, 19, organizing secretary of the PCP Dighinala Thana unit, from the office of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF).
No warrant of arrest was shown when he was taken away around 9am on Sunday, 19 October.
Earlier, the police had given UPDF leaders a verbal order not to open its office in Dighinala Sadar.
Zohel has a false case filed against him, but was on bail when the arrest was made.
The officer-in-charge of Dighinala police station, Shahadat Hossain Tito, told chtnews.com that Zohel was arrested on orders from higher authority and as part of a drive to recover a rifle stolen from a police personnel in Panchari.
