Extensive military operations are currently underway in Dighinala, Panchhari, and Ramgarh upazilas of Khagrachari district. Reports suggest that the army has taken positions in various locations across these upazilas and is engaged in patrolling and other activities.
Dighinala:
On Monday (August 25), an 80-member army team led by Lt. Md. Russel of the Dighinala Zone and Warrant Officer Md. Muhidul Islam of the Jarulchari Sub-zone took position in the remote Pakujjachari area of Babuchara Union in Dighinala upazila. It has been reported that they plan to conduct special operations in the areas of Dhanpada, Pakujjachari, Barbo Para, and Naraichari Bazaar.
This morning (August 26), locals reported seeing five more vehicles (both large and small) heading toward the area with additional army personnel. They also mentioned that drones were flown over the banks of the Maini River by the army for surveillance.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a man identifying himself as an army captain named Md. Arafat reportedly called a local resident (from mobile number 01841302628) and implied that “they (the army) are working in favor of the JSS Santu group.”
Locals believe the military operation in the area is intended to provide necessary support to the Santu faction of the JSS (Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti).
Panchhari:
On Monday (August 26) afternoon, more than 120 army and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) personnel took positions in the areas of Taraban Jagpara in Chengi Union and Subal Chandra Karbari Para, Harubil, and Korolyachari in Logang Union of Panchhari. It is reported that the forces are still stationed in those areas.
Ramgarh:
On Sunday evening (August 24), around 100 army personnel from the Guimara Brigade and Sindukchhari Zone took position at the Government Primary School in Barobelchari Para of Ramgarh upazila. From there, the troops began patrolling various nearby areas, causing widespread concern among local residents.
On Monday evening, the army conducted patrol operations in two separate groups. One group moved toward Hatikumba Para, while the other patrolled from Guza Para through Morakolya and Kalapani Para. Another group reportedly headed from Gowaipara toward Notun Bazaar.
Many locals have complained that the military patrols from daytime until night are disrupting their normal daily lives.
