Six Villagers Detained by Army in Ultachari, Later Released; Two Houses Raided

Six villagers were detained by the army from Shyamcharan Karbari Para, a remote hamlet in the Babuchhara Union of Dighinala Upazila in Khagrachari district. However, they were later released after being subjected to mental abuse and harassment, according to sources.

The victims are: Shyamal Jyoti Chakma, Mina Bap, Rupanta Chakma, Chiji Chakma, Ratulya Chakma, and Santosh Chakma.

According to sources, the soldiers tied them up for 3-4 hours, interrogated them, and subjected them to mental harassment. Additionally, locals stated that the soldiers raided two houses and seized mobile phones. The houses that were raided belong to Santosh Chakma and Jasmin Bap.

Local sources said that on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 9:00 AM, members of the Bangladesh Army crossed the Maini River from the Borbopara Primary School and headed toward Ultachari. At around 3:00 PM, the soldiers went to Shyamcharan Karbari Para, broke into the houses of two villagers, and searched them. No one was home at the time. The soldiers took three mobile phones they found inside.

Later, as the six individuals were on their way to a local shop, the soldiers detained them. After being detained, they were tied up for 3-4 hours and subjected to mental harassment and various forms of interrogation.

According to the latest information received at 8:00 PM, all of the detainees have been released. It is also known that the army conducted operations in several other nearby areas. The army’s actions, including the detentions and house searches, have created an extreme state of panic among the local population.

It is worth noting that army operations have been ongoing in Dhonpada, Naraichari, and surrounding areas since August 25.

  • The operation is being conducted under the commandment of Major Siam, commander of the Babuchara sub-zone, Major Mehedi, commander of Dighinala zone, Captain Arafat (who joined from Khagrachari), and another Major from Merung camp, whose name could not be known.
