A man has been abducted by armed vigilantes backed by the military from Nakaba Bazaar while returning from a rally in Ramgarh, Khagrachari, which was organized in protest against the ongoing military operations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The incident occurred today, Monday (September 1, 2025), at around 11:45 AM.
The abducted man’s name is Basna Mohan Chakma (42), son of the late Boropeda Chakma, a resident of Guja Para, Ward No. 2, Yogachola Union, Manikchari, Khagrachari.
According to sources, a protest march and rally were held this morning in the Jotha Khamar area of Ramgarh against military repression in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. After the rally, while returning by vehicle, a group of vigilantes on motorcycles blocked the road at Nakaba Bazaar by pointing automatic weapons.
Eyewitnesses report that among the vigilantes, five were Bengali and one was Chakma, though none of them could be identified.
The armed thugs forcibly took Basna Mohan Chakma from the rally vehicle and took him toward Jaliapara.
As of the time this report was written (1:45 PM), he had not been released, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The vigilantes also attempted to attack Dhanu Tripura, president of the Ramgarh Upazila branch of the Democratic Youth Forum, who was travelling in the same vehicle.
