Military Raid Again in Ghilachari Union – 9 Houses Searched, 2 Detained

The Bangladesh Army personnel conducted another raid in Nuo Adam (Ward 5) and Dajjachari (Ward 9) villages of Ghilachari Union under Naniachar Upazila in Rangamati district, during which they searched several indigenous homes and detained two individuals.

The incident took place today, Thursday (September 11, 2025). Earlier on September 9, the military had carried out searches and allegedly harassed residents in these and several other villages.

According to local sources, at around 11:30 AM today, a group of 20–25 soldiers from the Burighat sub-zone entered Dajjachari village. Simultaneously, another group of 10–15 soldiers from the Kudukchari sub-zone conducted a raid in Nuo Adam village. In the Rasta Muk area (Halchara) of Dajjachari, a villager named Junu Chakma (35), son of Dhana Chakma, was allegedly taken away while grazing cattle. He is a resident of Bhuiyo Adam village. Reports indicate that he is still in military custody.

It is reported that the military conducted intrusive searches in the homes of at least 9 villagers in Nuo Adam. The villagers whose homes were searched are:

  1. Bigu Bikash Chakma (53), son of Kumuzya Chakma
  2. Uzzal Chakma (33), son of Shanti Kumar Chakma
  3. Hiran Moy Chakma (47), son of the late Barna Kumar Chakma
  4. Sohel Chakma (34), son of Alo Chakma
  5. Muni Chakma (34), son of Badhi Dhan Chakma
  6. Kalachul Chakma (56), son of the late Swargadhan Chakma
  7. Gilukko Chakma (34), son of Kalachul Chakma
  8. Badhi Dhan Chakma (57), father’s name unknown
  9. Bimal Chakma, father’s name unknown

It has also been alleged that during the search of Bimal Chakma’s house, soldiers took 1,500 Taka in cash, which his wife Nitimaya Chakma had saved from selling vegetables.

In another incident, eyewitnesses report that the military detained Sunil Kanti Chakma (32), son of Dulal Chakma, while he was having tea and snacks at a shop in Dajjachari. He was reportedly beaten and then taken toward the Keretchari road. He is a resident of Dajjachari village.

As of the time this report was written (3:00 PM), local sources confirmed that military personnel were still present in the area.
