Army personnel have once again conducted house-to-house searches and allegedly harassed villagers in Duluchori Maon Para under Kudukchori Union, Rangamati Sadar Upazila, according to reports. Villagers are now living in extreme fear.
At 7:30 AM this Wednesday (17 September 2025), a 23-member army team stationed at a temporary camp in the residential building of South Kudukchhori Government Primary School raided Duluchori Maon Para again.
In this second operation, they searched the home of Subanta Chakma (35), son of the late Porimoy Lendu Chakma. However, no one was at home at the time, as all family members had gone to work in the jhum (shifting cultivation) fields.
Previously, on 16 September, the army had conducted a first round of searches at Subanta Chakma’s house, ransacking the belongings. Subanta alleged that during that raid, the soldiers took 450 taka in cash from the house.
During today’s raid, the soldiers also approached Russel Chakma, a 7th-grade student, son of Sujol Chakma, who lives in a neighboring house. They questioned him in a threatening manner, asking, “Where do the UPDF (United People’s Democratic Front) people live?” This frightened the young boy, after which his mother sent him to school.
The army then conducted further raids on two more homes, which belong to:
- Sujon Chakma (30), son of the late Bhadra Kumar Chakma
- Ripon Chakma (46), son of Shanti Ranjan Chakma
At Ripon Chakma’s house, soldiers reportedly broke toys belonging to a child named Rahim Chakma, along with ransacking household items and spoiling dried fish and vegetables kept for cooking. A teenage girl who was at the house had gone to fetch water from a nearby stream (jhiri) at the time.
Later, at Sujon Chakma’s house, the army attempted to dig holes inside the house to search for illegal items. However, his wife, Shiuli Chakma, protested, and they were unable to continue.
After completing the operations, the army team reportedly returned to their temporary base at the South Kudukchori Government Primary School.
It is worth mentioning that since 3:00 PM on 15 September, around 40 army personnel from the Kudukchori Sub-Zone have been stationed at a temporary camp in the residential building of the school. From there, they have been conducting operations in Duluchori Maon Para and surrounding areas.
Currently, army operations and house searches have increased across various parts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). This has led to growing public anger and dissatisfaction, with protests breaking out in some areas.
