While undergoing medical treatment in Chattogram, Suiprue Marma (49), an organizer of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), was arrested by RAB last Wednesday (17 September 2025) evening and sent to jail in what has been described as a false case.
Suiprue Marma is a resident of Headman Para in Mubachari Union of Mahalchari Upazila in Khagrachari district. His father’s name is the late Sulai Prue Marma.
According to sources, RAB-7 members arrested him at 7 PM on Wednesday from a relative’s house in the Char Rangamatia area under Chandgaon Police Station in Chattogram city. No illegal items were found in his possession.
After being held in RAB custody overnight, he was handed over to Bayezid Police Station on Thursday morning (18 September). He was then presented before the Chattogram court under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Penal Code, in what is claimed to be a fabricated case. The court denied him bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
The case under which he was shown arrested includes the following:
- CMP Bayezid Bostami Police Station
o FIR No: 42, dated 18 May 2025
o GR No: 227
o Charges: Sections 6(2)(e), 6(2)(f), 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, and Section 120B of the Penal Code, 1860
- Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station
o FIR No: 10, dated 15 October 2016
o GR No: 342/16, dated 16 October 2016
o Charges: Sections 1, 353, 302, 34 of the Penal Code
Suiprue Marma’s family and the UPDF have strongly denied any links between him and the ongoing case at Bayezid Police Station, which involves the alleged recovery of “Kuki Chin Army uniforms.” They assert that Suiprue has no affiliation with the Kuki Chin group and that this is part of a politically motivated crackdown on the UPDF in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. They allege that he has been deliberately framed in this false case.
Meanwhile, an investigative report by DBC News on 4 September revealed that, although the recovered uniforms in Chattogram were labeled as belonging to the Kuki Chin group, their actual destination was Myanmar and Thailand. The report also mentioned that members of the security forces were involved in the matter.
