The army conducted an operation in various villages of Perachara Union and the Bhaibonchara area in Khagrachari, detaining three individuals including a school student, and physically assaulting several others including a college teacher and a rural healthcare provider.

According to sources, around 7:00 AM today (Sunday, 28 September 2025), a group of army personnel raided Beltali Para in Perachara Union. They detained Devnath Tripura, a 10th-grade student, along with two of his classmates (both Chakma). Afterward, the army moved to Poltonjoy Para. Devnath Tripura is the son of Brajeshwar Tripura and is a student at Shishu Kalyan Sangha Abashik High School in Khabangpura. The names of the other two detained students were not known.

The army then searched the houses of Raktamoy Tripura (50), Nayon Tripura (35), and Subhash Tripura (45) in Poltonjoy Para. Following that, they went to Jamtali and Singinala and ordered local shops to close, citing Section 144.

At around 8:30 AM, in the Khagrachari stadium area, army personnel stopped Matendra Lal Tripura, Ward No. 4 member of Bhaibonchhara Union, and Rupayan Chakma, who were going to the market for Durga Puja shopping. The army reportedly behaved rudely with them and threatened them, saying, “What kind of Puja? There’s no need to celebrate Puja.”

It was also reported that the army went to Swarnirbhar Bazar and chased away locals.

Around 9:00 AM, an army patrol team went to the Perachara brickfield area and beat up local shopkeepers. The assaulted shopkeepers were identified as Rajyamuni Tripura (50) from Chelachhara village and Baltu Chakma (20) from Headman Para.

At one point, when the army tried to beat up former police officer Samar Bikash Chakma, local women intervened and prevented it. The army then moved to the Perachara School gate and reportedly behaved badly with local shopkeepers Khokan Chakma, Aloron Chakma, Binimoy Chakma, Amar Sani Chakma, and Biggan Kanti Chakma.

At around 10:00 AM, an army unit went in two vehicles to Jurmurong Bazar in Bhaibonchara and ordered all shops to close.

During this time, the army physically assaulted rural healthcare provider Jyoti Shankar Chakma (42), son of Amiya Chakma, and Panchari College lecturer Junan Chakma (38), son of Darshan Chakma. Both are residents of Ward No. 6 in Bhaibonchara Union.

Additionally, Paran Jyoti Chakma (18), son of the late Tirtha Muni Chakma, and Jewel Tripura (35), son of the late Madhu Mohan Tripura from Surendra Master Para, were also beaten.

Despite identifying himself as a teacher at Panchari College, Junan Chakma was still subjected to assault by the army.

Local residents reported that the army left toward the Dewan Para camp following strong protests from the community.

According to recent updates, army patrols are still ongoing in the area.
