Residents of Birjoy Para, located in the Machyachara area of Logang Union in Panchari upazila of Khagrachhari district, have reportedly been held hostage by the JSS (Santu Group). The village is located about one to one and a half kilometers from the Logang Union headquarters. All residents of the village belong to the Tripura community. For the past 20 to 25 days, an armed group of about 50 to 60 members from the Santu Group has been stationed in the village.

According to villagers, on September 26, members of the Santu Group subjected a local resident named Parimal Tripura (42), son of Khajendra Tripura, to inhuman physical torture. However, they did not allow him to leave the village to seek medical treatment. He is currently being forced to receive treatment at home.

Residents allege that the group has confiscated mobile phones from most villagers except those they trust. No one is allowed to go outside the village without their permission.

Additionally, it has been reported that mobile phones have also been confiscated from several people in the broader Machyachara area.

The commander of this armed group is reportedly a man named Dighol Chakma. Villagers must seek his permission if they wish to go anywhere. Without his approval, no one is allowed to leave the village.

The residents have appealed to local public representatives and the administration for help in freeing them from this hostage-like situation.
