Bangladesh Army personnel physically assaulted two villagers in Arun Para of Ward No. 7, Sajek Union, Rangamati.
The incident occurred today, Sunday (26 October 2025), around noon.
The victims are:
- Dhaneshwar Tripura (30), son of Ganendra Tripura, resident of Arun Para.
- Kartik Kumar Tripura (55), son of Kanranjan Tripura, resident of Arun Para.
Villagers have alleged that at around 1:00 PM today, a group of army personnel suddenly arrived at a shop in Arun Para and physically assaulted the local shopkeeper, Kartik Kumar Tripura, and Dhaneshwar Tripura, who was present at the shop, without any reason.
The victims stated that the soldiers accused them of cooperating with the UPDF and interrogated them while beating them.
Kartik Kumar Tripura said the soldiers questioned him about why he was selling mustard oil in the shop and whether he was cooperating with the UPDF.
Although they were released after the assault, the soldiers threatened them, saying, “If the UPDF learns about this incident in any way, or if it becomes public, you will face even harsher consequences.”
This oppressive action by the army has created extreme fear and anger among the local population. The villagers have demanded an immediate end to military operations.
It is noteworthy that since 18 October, the army has been conducting extensive operations in Wards 5, 6, and 7 of Sajek Union. As part of this operation, an army team has been stationed in Arun Para for the past two days.
