Panic spread among local residents after army personnel stationed near Nagel Para in Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachari fired blank shots overnight.

According to locals, on Tuesday evening (November 4, 2025) around 6:00 p.m., approximately 50–60 army personnel took position in a fruit garden belonging to Md. Motaleb of Lalchari Para and in a nearby litchi orchard owned by Sahab Uddin.

Later, at around 11:30 p.m., the soldiers fired two blank rounds, followed by another round around 1:00 a.m. at midnight.

The sound of gunfire caused panic among residents, who spent the night in fear and uncertainty.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, upon hearing the shots, asked locals, “Where is the gunfire coming from?”, which further added to the confusion among the people.

It is noteworthy that since the evening of November 2, more than a hundred members of the army and BGB have been stationed in a litchi orchard owned by a man named Sahab Uddin, near Nagel Para along the Lalchari border. While BGB personnel left the area around 7:00 a.m. on November 4, the army remains stationed there.

Questions have arisen among locals as to whether this atmosphere of fear and intimidation is part of an attempt to drive out the indigenous hill residents living in the area.
