Several members of the army physically assaulted an indigenous Jumma motorcycle driver who operates a rental service in Panchari, Khagrachari.
Local residents reported that the incident occurred today, Tuesday (9 December 2025), at around 5:45 p.m.
The victim has been identified as Kalaya Chakma (32), son of Himendra Chakma, from Prabhu Moni Para village.
According to local sources, the victim, Kalaya Chakma, was carrying a passenger from the Amtuli area of Logang toward Khedarachara when he came across a group of army personnel stationed there. However, the soldiers did not say anything to him at that time.
Later, when he was carrying another passenger to the Shanti Nagar Bengali neighborhood in Logang, he again encountered the same army personnel. This time, the soldiers began asking him various questions and said: “Why are you running into us again and again?”
Because Kalaya Chakma does not speak Bangla well, he was unable to answer their questions properly. The soldiers then allegedly gave him no opportunity to respond further and severely beat him before taking him to the Panchari Sub-Zone army camp.
He was later released from the Sub-Zone custody into the responsibility of local member Mohammad Saheb Ali, according to reports. However, his physical condition could not be confirmed.
