The Bangladesh Army personnel have reportedly demolished a newly constructed private primary school that was built with public funding in the Egajjyachari area of Majlong, Sajek Union, under Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati district.

According to sources, at around 12:00 noon on Sunday (14 December 2025), a group of army personnel arrived in Egajjyachari in a pickup truck from the Baghaihat Army Zone and demolished the school.

A local elder, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that a group of 12 to 15 army personnel from the Baghaihat Zone came to Egajjyachhari along with settler Bengalis. Later, following the instructions of the army, the settlers demolished the newly built private primary school and took the school’s equipment and materials to the zone.

He further stated that the people of Sajek have been deprived of educational opportunities for generations. Therefore, with funding from local residents, the primary school had been constructed in the Egajjyachhari area of Ward No. 5 of Sajek Union.

Meanwhile, after news of the demolition spread, local residents reportedly launched an immediate protest and blocked the Sajek tourist road.
