A contingent of the Bangladesh Army has been stationed at Ramhari Para High School in Burighat Union of Naniarchar Upazila, Rangamati, for the past two days, raising concern among local indigenous residents.
According to local sources, the reason for the army’s presence has not been disclosed, contributing to a sense of anxiety in the area. Residents report growing unease due to the lack of clear information.
Sources state that on Tuesday, March 24, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a team of 35 to 40 army personnel, led by a Major and a Captain from the Naniarchar Zone, arrived at the school in five vehicles and set up a position there. The personnel have remained at the location since then.
On the night of March 25, two additional army vehicles reportedly arrived at the school. Following their arrival, soldiers closed the school gate and restricted movement along the adjacent road, according to allegations from local indigenous residents.
It has also been reported that the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Naniarchar Sadar Zone entered the school premises while traveling to and from the Burighat Sub-Zone.
The continued and unexplained presence of army personnel at the school has led to speculation and suspicion among the local population.
Residents further reported that on March 25, army personnel conducted patrols at various points in the Ramhari Para area. On March 26, a team of 18 to 20 personnel departed in two vehicles on a patrol operation toward the Krishnamachara area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the army may remain stationed at the school until Sunday, March 28.
The situation has contributed to heightened concern and apprehension among residents in the surrounding area.
