A WOULD-BE rapist grabbed a Marma girl from behind and tried to attack her on Friday.
The victim’s screams attracted the villagers, who caught the man and then handed him over to the police.
But the police are reported to be refusing to register a case against the attacker who identified himself as Mohammad Sumon.
On inquiry, it was revealed that he was hiding his real name to take advantage of the legal loopholes.
Many who know him by face said his father worked as a chef with Mahalchari AP Battalion, a para-military force.
The girl, from Kaptai Para village in Mahalchari Upazila, Khagrachari, was grazing cows nearby the village when ‘Sumon’ assaulted her.
