The Sajek Bhumi Rakkha Committee (Sajek Land Protection Committee) and Sajek Nari Samaj (Sajek Women Association) in a press statement rejected the observations made by Opposition Chief Whip Zainal Abdin Farooq at a press briefing in Khagrachari held after his visit to Sajek and Satbheiyapara.
SBRC convenor Gyanendu Chakma and SNS convenor Ambika Chakma questioned: “Despite the fact that the army have taken direct part in the attacks and that their bullets killed at least two persons, how can he (Opposition Chief Whip) say that the Baghaichari and Khagrachari incidents had taken place as a consequence of withdrawal of the army from CHT?”
The two leaders reiterated their demand for the constitution of a judicial inquiry committee to probe the 19-20 February Sajek attacks.
Terming their boycott of the visiting team of BNP parliamentarians as correct and justified, they said, “That the aim of the visit of the BNP parliamentarians is to save the murderers and attackers is evident from the Opposition Chief Whip’s statement.”
“Even after the visit there has been no change in their statements that they had been issuing since the (Sajek) attacks.” they added.
They thanked the people of Sajek for boycotting the team of BNP parliamentarians.
