Five Jumma organisations have called for the boycott of Boisabi festival in protest against army and settler attacks in Sajek and Khagrachari.
In a statement issued to the press today, the Sajek Land Protection Committee, Sajek Nari Samaj, Hill Student’s Council, Hill Women’s Forum and Democratic Youth Forum said, “after the attacks in Sajek and Khagrachari thousands of Jumma people are being forced to live a subhuman life in the forest under open skies. The perpetrators have not been arrested yet. Nor has any inquiry committee been constituted. There is fear and anxiety everywhere among the Jumma people. The situation is not favourable for any celebration at all.”
The Jumma organisations urged the government to arrest those involved in violent attacks in Sajek and Khagrachari, lift the ban on freedom of expression including public meetings and rallies in Khagrachari and take initiatives to resolve the CHT problem politically.
