THE Sajek Land Protction Committee and Sajek Nari Samaj (Women Association) in a statement today accused the government of attempting to starve the Sajek attack victims to death.
Mr Gyanendu Bikash Chakma, Convenor of Sajek Land Protection Committee and Ms Ambika Chakma, Convenor of Sajek Nari Samaj, said the government had so far provided only Taka five thousand, one bundle of CI sheets and 40kgs of rice as relief to each victim family, terming it a minuscule of what is needed.
They said the government was not sincere about rehabilitating the Jumma victims and added, “The government is neither taking initiative to rehabilitate the victims with compensation itself nor permitting other organisations including UNDP, who are keen to assist in the rehabilitation work, to do the job.”
They also alleged that even after the attack, threats to and harassment of the Jumma villagers in Sajek had continued.
“No vehicle from Dighinala is allowed to go to Majolong and vice versa. Every passenger vehicle is stopped at Baghaihat and the passengers are forced to change their vehicles to reach Dighinala or Majolong.” they added.
The two leaders urged the government to immediately stop all this harassment and rehabilitate the victim families in their respective homesteads.
