The police have torn down Boisabi posters in Khagrachari, UPDF sources say.
UPDF Khagrachari district organiser Niron Chakma told chtnews.com that a group of police personnel from Khagrachari had torn down all the posters in district town and from Swanirbhor bazaar to Rubber Plantation Number 12 on Khagrachari – Panchari road.
“They began the drive at 1:30pm today. The Deputy Commissioner himself has ordered the tearing down of the posters” he added.
Earlier, members of the Santu Larma faction of JSS had torn down the same posters in Bandar area in Chittagong, presumably at the bidding of the government agencies.
The posters have been published and put up by five Jumma organisations affiliated with UPDF, calling for a general boycott of Boisabi festival in protest against brutal communal attacks on Jumma villagers in Sajek and Khagrachari in February that led to the killing of at least 3 Jummas and the burning down of more than 500 houses and business establishments.
Almost all the socio-cultural organisations in Khagrachari have supported the call, saying they would abstain from all festivities during the festival.
