A group of army personnel from Banyachola army camp under Laxmichari zone last night arrested Chokkapeda Chakma aka Amar aka Sajal, a listed criminal and a member of the military-backed Borkha Party, from Gorjonya area in Kanchanpur Union under Fatikchari Thana along with Taka 21,000.
“He has been kept in Banyachola camp. However, high military officers are reportedly putting pressure on Banyachola camp commander to release him.” Niron Chakma, a UPDF leader in Khagrachari, told chtnews.com quoting Laxmichari residents.
Chokkapeda’s permanent address is Dighinala. However, he has been living with his father-in-law in Guimara for the last few years.
He is a listed criminal and has a number of extortion cases filed against him with Matiranga and Mainkchari police stations.
He is known as Sajl in Laxmichari area where he is involved in criminal activities including extortion and kidnapping of UPDF supporters.
He is also one of those who killed UPDF leader Ruikhoi Marma in Laxmichari last year.
The arrest of Chokkapeda by army personnel of Banyachola camp shows that not all the army officers support the criminal activities of the Borkha Party terrorists.
