Increased army patrols in Guimara Upazila of Khagrachari district are causing widespread fear among the local population, according to reports.

It is reported that yesterday (August 20, 2025), a group of 70 Bangladesh Army personnel from the Naikyapara Sub-zone of the Guimara Brigade set up camp beside a local Buddhist monastery in the remote Nakrai Para area of Ward 9, under Hafchari Union No. 2 in Guimara Upazila.

Today (Thursday, August 21), the military team reportedly split into three or four groups and patrolled several nearby villages, including Sindukchari Mukhpara, Kukichara, Dharmaghar, Naimrongchara, and Sathazai Karbari Para.

The presence of these army patrols has sparked fear and anxiety among the general public and especially among the youth in these villages.

A local villager, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed concern, saying: “We are now living in fear and anxiety that the army might at any moment conduct house searches, harass people, or even detain innocent individuals.”
