The Bangladesh Army personnel are conducting house-to-house searches targeting indigenous residents under the guise of an operation in several areas, including Kumardhan Para of Bhaibonechara Union in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila.
According to sources, early this morning (Saturday, October 18, 2025) around 4:00 AM, a group of army personnel entered Kumardhan Para, subjected local residents to various forms of harassment including interrogations, and conducted searches in their homes. As of the time of writing this report (11:00 AM), the army was still present in the area. Therefore, details such as which houses were searched or whether anyone was detained remain unclear.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that another group of army personnel is stationed in the area surrounding the Buddhist monastery in Giriphul Baura Para.
Local residents believe that today’s army operation is a response to yesterday’s (Friday) memorial services held in honor of the three martyrs of Guimara. These services, organized by locals, took place in various locations in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila—including Buddhist monasteries, Hindu temples, and churches.
