The Bangladesh Army personnel have again conducted house-to-house searches in Bongoltoli of Baghaichari upazila, Rangamati district—this time targeting nine villagers’ homes.

According to local sources, the raids were carried out in two phases: first on Monday night (November 3) at around 10:00 p.m., and again early Tuesday morning (November 4) around 3:30 a.m.

The searches took place in several neighborhoods of Bongoltoli—Shubharanjan Karbari Para, B Block’s Robishankar Karbari Para, Doyamoy Karbari Para, Mithu Karbari Para, and Nibro Karbari Para.

The residents whose homes were searched are as follows:

  1. Doya Kumar Chakma (50), son of Suketu Chakma, village – Shubharanjan Karbari Para, Ward 2, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  2. Neelmoy Chakma (50), son of late Surja Joy Chakma, village – Shubharanjan Karbari Para, Ward 2, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  3. Sunil Kumar Chakma (60), son of late Brojolal Chakma, village – Mithu Karbari Para, Ward 2, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  4. Suman Chakma (36), son of Sunil Kumar Chakma, village – Mithu Karbari Para, Ward 2, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  5. Mangal Kiran Chakma (45), son of late Lamba Chakma, village – Shubharanjan Karbari Para, Ward 2, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  6. Bimal Chakma (49), son of Robisurya Chakma, village – Robishankar Karbari Para, Ward 5, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  7. Dhon Kumar Chakma (50), son of late Boga Chakma, village – Mithu Karbari Para, Ward 2, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  8. Dhabna Chakma (50), son of late Bijoy Lal Chakma, village – Nibro Karbari Para, Ward 3, Bangaltali Union Parishad.
  9. Ripon Chakma (43), son of late Ram Chakma, village – Doyamoy Karbari Para, Bangaltali Union Parishad, Baghaichhari.

No one was present at the home of Bimal Chakma in Robishankar Karbari Para at the time of the raid. Soldiers reportedly broke into his home and conducted a thorough search inside.

It should be noted that earlier, on Monday (November 3) at around 4:15 a.m., soldiers from the Baghaichari Zone and the Karengatali Army Camp jointly conducted searches of four villagers’ homes and one shop in the same area.

Afterward, the soldiers split into two groups and took positions at Uttar (North) Bangaltali Government Primary School and Madhyam (Middle) Bangaltali Government Primary School.

At present, about 150 army personnel are stationed at these two locations. From there, they are carrying out patrols and house-to-house searches in nearby indigenous (Pahari) villages.

The soldiers are also continuing foot patrols along the Karengatali–Ujoazar brick-surfaced road.

Because of these nighttime and allegedly harassing military searches, as well as their continued presence in local schools, there is growing anger and resentment among the residents in the area.

Local people report that these actions have disrupted their normal daily movement and livelihoods, while the ongoing military occupation of the schools has also hampered the education of students.
