Extensive Army Activity in Kaukhali: Search Conducted in a Buddhist Monastery, Blank Shots Fired to Create Panic

The Bangladesh Army personnel have been conducting extensive operations in Ghagra Union of Kaukhali upazila in Rangamati district. According to local sources, soldiers fired blank shots, spreading panic in the area, and carried out a search operation inside a Buddhist monastery.

Residents have reported that soldiers are currently deployed at several locations in an aggressive posture.

It is learned that around 5:30 a.m. today, Wednesday (November 5, 2025), 70–80 army personnel arrived in eight vehicles from Rangamati Zone and Ghagra Sub-Zone and first took position in the Chelachara Kiching Shop area. From there, one group proceeded through Chelachara to Harangi High School.

Additionally, sources said another team of 22 soldiers from Furomoun Camp has taken position in Maon Para.

At around 6 a.m., the soldiers fired four blank rounds at the mouth of the Kojoi Chari–Badol Chari canal, causing panic among locals.

Reports also indicate that another group of soldiers conducted a search at the Shanti Priya Buddhist monastery in Leva Para.

Meanwhile, around 6:30 a.m., another group of soldiers from the Kaukhali Sub-Zone arrived by vehicle and took position at the Harangi Marma Para shop area.

Currently, soldiers are stationed at Harangi High School, Harangi Refugee Para Government Primary School, and around the Harangi Para Buddhist Monastery, according to local sources.

The military operation and aggressive stance of the soldiers have caused extreme fear, anxiety, and anger among the local residents.
