Blank shots fired by two members of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) from the Baghaichari Zone caused panic among locals in the Jorabridge area along the Baghaichari–Dighinala road in Rangamati.

The incident took place this Thursday (November 6, 2025) afternoon at a place called Baroitali in Jorabridge area under Kabakhali Union of Dighinala Upazila.

According to local sources, around 3 p.m. today, two DGFI members — Md. Humayun and Md. Ishaq — went to the Baroitali area of Jorabridge on a motorcycle from the Baghaichari Zone. Upon arrival, they fired three to four rounds of blank shots with pistols they were carrying. The sudden sound of gunfire caused panic among local residents.

A resident of Baroitali village, who wished to remain anonymous, said:

“I was in a rubber plantation collecting discarded rubber to use for lighting the cooking fire. At that time, two DGFI members arrived on a motorcycle and stopped by the side of the main Dighinala–Baghaichari road. Then they took pistols from their waists and fired three to four blank shots. I got really scared.”

After staying there for a short while, the DGFI members reportedly left the scene on their motorcycle and headed back toward Baghaichari, the witness added.

The reason behind firing blank shots by the DGFI in that area remains unknown.

However, reports have recently surfaced from various locations that army personnel have been firing blank shots during so-called “operations,” causing public fear. It is being speculated that this incident may be part of a similar pattern.
