An army team conducted a reckless patrol in Uzo Bazar, Sajek, Rangamati, and visited two homes where they interrogated the residents.
According to local sources, around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (November 12, 2025), about 40 army personnel from the Gangaram Dor Camp (formerly the ECB Camp, now converted to a Bengal camp) marched on foot to Uzo Bazar. There, they divided into three groups — one group patrolled towards the under-construction Sajek College, another group remained stationed at Uzo Bazar, and the third group went to the village beside Gangaram Mukh Government Primary School, adjacent to Uzo Bazar, where they questioned residents at two homes in a manner described as harassing.
The heads of the families who were subjected to questioning were identified as Purna Babu Chakma (45), son of the late Bijoy Chakma, of Gangaram Mukh village, and Sanjib Chakma (35), son of Dipon Chakma, of the same village.
At Purna Babu Chakma’s home, soldiers reportedly noticed several guests and asked, “Why are there so many people in the house?” They then questioned the guests with inquiries such as, “Where is your home? What is your name?” and so on.
At the home of Sanjib Chakma, soldiers found his wife Chitti Sa Chakma in the yard and questioned her without cause, asking, “We’ve heard that UPDF members have come here — where are they?”
Afterward, one group of soldiers proceeded on foot along the brick-paved road toward Korengatali, heading in the direction of Surungnala.
At the time of writing this report, soldiers were reportedly stationed in three separate groups — at the house of Shantoswar Chakma in Surungnala village, at Uzo Bazar, and around the under-construction college area.
A local elder, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, “The soldiers’ behavior doesn’t seem reassuring.”
It has been reported that due to such reckless night patrols and aggressive questioning by the army, residents of Surungnala and Gangaram Mukh areas are living in fear.
