One Person Detained, Three Others Tortured by the Army in Longadu

The army detained one person and tortured three others in Madhya Harikaba village of Ward 7, Longadu Union, Longadu Upazila of Rangamati district.

The victims are:

  1. Sagar Basa Chakma (24), son of Hari Mohan Chakma and the late Kuki Lata Chakma
  2. Suman Chakma alias Babukke (24), son of Biro Ranjan Chakma and Malapudi Chakma
  3. Kalachan Chakma (25), son of Sudhirmoy Chakma and Nilendri Chakma and one other person whose identity could not be confirmed.

According to sources, on Monday morning (17 November 2025), a group of 20–22 army personnel from Bame Longadu Sub-Zone raided Madhya Harikaba village. The soldiers moved around the village allegedly searching for “terrorists.”

As today was the weekly market day at Vaibonchara Bazaar, many villagers had gone there to shop. However, the army reportedly physically assaulted those who were still at home. The incident of torture occurred around 12 p.m.

Among the victims, Sagar Basa Chakma was taken away by the army after being tortured, according to reports.

As of the time this report was written, it was not known whether he had been released.

This incident of torture and detention by the army has caused fear among local residents.

Locals have reported that the army team is currently staying at the Karbari’s (village head) house in Madhya Harikaba.

Meanwhile, locals have demanded an immediate end to such abuses, accusing the army of carrying out unjustified repression and torture on civilians under the pretext of searching for “terrorists.”
