An activist of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front UPDF has been arrested in Matiranga of Khagrachari district.
He has been identified as Ripon Tripura (28), son of Rohendra Tripura, from Punarbasan village, Ward No. 1, Guimara Sadar Union.
According to sources, today, Saturday (29 November 2025) at around 12:30 pm, a group of army personnel from the Matiranga Zone arrested him and took him to the zone while he was on his way to Rasulpur in Matiranga town for organizational work.
After interrogation and alleged torture, he was reportedly handed over to Matiranga Police Station at around 3:30 pm.
Zhimith Chakma, an organizer of the Matiranga–Guimara Unit of the UPDF, stated that the reports in some media claiming that a “walkie-talkie and extortion receipt book” were recovered from him are false and that he did not have anything of that sort in his possession.
He demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Ripon Tripura.
