OVER one hundred Jumma women have put up road blocks in Dighinala, Khagrachari, protesting the arrest of a UPDF member.
They have blocked military vehicles and police vans on Babuchara – Dighinala road and are demanding the release of Milon Chakma, 28, son of Karunamoy Chakma, who was arrested earlier at 12:30pm today from a shop at Narikul Bagan.
Mr Chakma was arrested by a group of army men from Dighinala zone. He came to the shop to buy groceries.
Later, the army handed him over to the police.
As soon as the news of his arrest spread, the local Jumma women put up resistance, blocking Babuchara – Dighinala road.
A standoff has been created as the police insist that they should be allowed to take him to the police station.
“The police say that they would release him from police station, but we don’t believe them.” Udoy Chakma, a local UPDF leader, told chtnews.com by mobile phone.
Claiming that the arrested UPDF man is completely innocent, Udoy said, “Milon does not have any case filed against him in any police station”.
He demanded immediate and unconditional release of his comrade.
The blockade has not been lifted till the writing of this report at 9pm.
