A MOTOR BIKE driver, Md. Mannan(26), roughed up a Buddhist Sraman(novice) in Manikchari, Khagrachari, promting Jumma Buddhists to register a protest with the local UP Chairman.
The incident occured on Wednesday, 28 October, at 4pm when Surya Sraman(13),and his two classmates from Batnatoli Sukhboti Buddhist temple were out for a walk to Batnatoli Namar Para, according to eyewitnesses’ accounts.
Mannan, son of Hossain Mian of Batnatoli area, was riding his motorbike on the same road and roughed Surya Sraman up accusing him of not giving way to him. “Mannan took off his shoes and smacked the Sraman with them,” an eyewitness said.
The Buddhist Jumma Villagers, who consider Mannan’s action as a sacriledge, reported it to Shahidul Islam, Chairman of Batnatoli Union Parishad, and requested him to take action against Mannan.
