A temporary army camp has reportedly been established on the premises of Arannya Kutir Buddhist Monastery, located in Juddho Mohan Karbari Para (inside Pukurghat) of Ward No. 5 in Dighinala Union under Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari district.

According to local sources, yesterday morning (Tuesday, 18 November 2025), more than a hundred army personnel under the command of Captain Azmir arrived at the location with tents and other equipment and took position there.

Upon arrival, the soldiers forced five innocent villagers (day laborers) to hold their ears and do sit-ups as a form of humiliation.

Names of two of the victims have been obtained:

  • Shyamal Chakma (24), son of Sigulo Chakma
  • Anadi Chakma (42), father unknown.

The names of the remaining three have not been identified.

Although 20 soldiers left the site today (Wednesday, 19 November), more than 80 troops are still stationed there. Locals report that the army is not allowing people to go near the area.

According to one source, the soldiers may remain there until 2 December.

It is learned that due to the army’s presence, local residents are living in fear.

It may be noted that since 9 November, two groups of soldiers had been stationed in Toriṭ Kanti Karbari Para of Babuchara Union and neighboring Manibhadra Karbari Para (Bagan Para) under Dighinala Union. From there, the soldiers who had positioned at Manibhadra Karbari Para left yesterday (18 November) and joined the troops now stationed at Juddho Mohan Karbari Para.

Meanwhile, although some soldiers left the group stationed at Toriṭ Kanti Karbari Para in Babuchara, one team is still staying there.

According to reports, they may leave either tonight or tomorrow morning. However, locals said that this group conducted patrol operations in the area today (Wednesday).
