Police have recovered the body of a young man named Lalram Sang Bawm (35) from a forested area near Mayurpara in Paindu Union under Ruma Upazila of Bandarban. The body, recovered on Monday afternoon, was handed over to the Bawm Social Council (BMC) yesterday, Tuesday, after the autopsy.

According to police and local sources, the body was found lying in the forest about a kilometer northwest of Mayurpara on Monday afternoon. It is believed that he was killed three to four days earlier and that the body was dumped there. The body had already begun decomposing.

Members of the local Bawm community identified the body as that of Lalram Sang Bawm. His home is in Chungsangpara, located beyond Keokradong Hill near the Myanmar border in Remakri Prangsa Union. The distance from Chungsangpara to Mayurpara is about 50 kilometers. Local residents said Lalram Sang Bawm worked as a motorcycle driver for hire.

Bandarban Civil Surgeon Md. Shaheen Hossain Chowdhury said there were injury marks on the victim’s head and neck. Preliminary assessment suggests that he died from those injuries.

Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sohrawardi said they tried to contact the victim’s family, but were unable to do so due to the lack of mobile network coverage in the area. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to leaders of the Bawm Social Council.
