Since the morning of 18 December, more than a hundred army personnel have been stationed at Jarulchari High School in Bongoltoli Union of Bagaichari Upazila in Rangamati. On that day, army members arrived from the Baghaihat Army Zone in 11 pickup trucks and took up position there.
From among those soldiers, a group of 15 members went to Shishutoli village at around 7:00 a.m. today, Thursday (20 December 2025), and seized two mobile phones from a person named Pun Chakma (a traditional healer). It is reported that the mobile phones were returned later that night.
On the other hand, news has been received that today (20 December) at around 8:00 p.m., a group of 20–25 armed members of the JSS Santu Group arrived and took position in North B-Block village of Ward No. 1 under Bongoltoli Union.
The consecutive presence of armed members of both the army and the Santu Group has created suspicions among the local population. People are saying among themselves, “When more than a hundred army personnel are stationed at Jarulchari School, how can armed members of the Santu Group come to B-Block? Have they come after reaching some kind of understanding with the army?”
Meanwhile, it has been reported that local residents are living in an atmosphere of unknown fear surrounding the presence of both the army and the Santu Group in the area.
