A youth leader of Democratic Youth Forum (DYF) has been shot dead in Bangladesh’s Rangamati district in an attack that also left two of his sisters injured, local sources said.
On April 17, 2026, Dharma Sing Chakma, 40, son of the late Dhananjay Chakma and Central Vice President of the Democratic Youth Forum (DYF), was killed at approximately 6:30 a.m. (BST) at his residence in Abashik village, Kudukchhari Union, under Rangamati Sadar Upazila.
According to residents, a group of armed attackers arrived in a vehicle from Rangamati town, reportedly led by Jhimit Chakma and Atal Chakma. They entered the house and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene. Chakma died on the spot.

Two of his sisters, Kripasona Chakma, 45, and Bhagyashobha Chakma, 35, were injured in the shooting. They were subsequently taken for medical treatment. According to reports, they sustained bullet injuries while attempting to protect their brother.
Local residents have alleged that the attackers were armed cadres of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS–Santu faction). Following the incident, multiple protests and road blockades were reported in response to the killing of Dharma Sing Chakma.
